What GitBook’s free trial includes, how it starts, and what happens when it ends

The free trial lets you test GitBook’s features, start onboarding your team, and create or import your content while trying advanced features such as advanced customization, AI answers, and controlled access to your site.

How does the trial start?

Your trial starts once you publish your site to an audience, or when you invite additional members to your organization — regardless of their permissions.

You don’t need to provide a payment method to start a free trial. If you decide to upgrade after your trial, GitBook asks for a payment method at that point.

Which features can I test during the trial?

You can test all of the features of the Ultimate plan. Your site feature access depends on which site type you choose when creating a site. See our pricing page to compare plans.

How can I check the time remaining on my trial?

The remaining trial time appears in the banner at the bottom of your sidebar. You can also check it from your plan settings: go back to your organization Home and click Settings, then click Billing under the Organization group.

What happens at the end of the trial?

When the trial finishes, you choose a plan or downgrade to free. You can review your members and published sites before proceeding to payment.

Can I extend the trial?

If you have a large organization and you’re interested in the Enterprise plan, GitBook offers additional migration and onboarding assistance, including longer trials. Contact [e-mail] to discuss your requirements.
